Defense
Fielding: Students will learn the proper fielding technique in catching and receiving the
softball. Each lesson will focus on the fundamentals of preparation, set up, balance,
footwork, glove position, receiving the ball, transfer of ball from glove to throwing position.
More advanced students will also learn proper fielding technique in forehands,
backhands, charging, lateral movement, popups, forceouts, tagouts, double plays,
relays, tracking and do or die plays.
Throwing: Students will learn proper throwing technique beginning with transferring the
ball from the glove to release of the throw and follow through. The students will focus on
making strong accurate throws.
More advanced students will also learn proper throwing technique for underhand toss,
backhand flips, sidearm release, quick release, charging soft grounders, lateral
movement throws and do or die plays.
